Let's reflect shall we?

I don’t really talk politics when I sit down to write things for my website, but there are times when the tradition should be broken, and I feel like today; some things need to be said.

We’re only six days into 2021 and already she is doing her best to throw as much shit at us that is possible, and in today, during the confirmation of Joe Biden as President of the United States, we are witnessing a coup happening in Washington.

Yes, a coup.

Scenes that we are seeing today in the states is that in America you can be shot for sleeping in your bed but when you invade the Capitol building you can get away with it?

What we are seeing is clear that it is one rule for one and one for the other. If you don’t agree with what those who are in charge are saying then you won’t be listened to, and you will be treated like something that you’d find on the bottom of our shoes.

The worrying thing that what we are seeing the in the United States; it is not a problem that is unique there, but in the United Kingdom our democracy is under threat.

Imagine this; Boris Johnson loses the next election to Kier Starmer and refuses to accept the result. I know, it’s a crazy thing to entertain, and I would like to think that Boris Johnson isn’t that stupid, but as we’ve seen over the last few years – anything is possible?

The right-wing in the United Kingdom is no different from that of the United States, and while we’ve seen Trumpism take off in the USA, we are seeing Johnsonism taking over the United Kingdom. At one point I thought it might be stupidity, but more and more I’m starting to think that they know what they are doing and their doing it purposefully to sow the seeds of doubt into our democracy – and without strong condemnation it is effectively supporting it.

I’m not saying it’s going to happen – but the way things are going in the United Kingdom – anything is a possibility? Isn’t it? We’ve been seeing a rise from the right for a long time – because lets be fair, if you say something enough times, regardless of whether it is true or not, then people are going to believe it. We’ve seen it with Brexit. We’ve seen racism and hatred been incited by blatant lying. We’re only going to see more of it – you can call it a “spin” on the topic – but isn’t a “spin” just another way of concealing the truth?

There are many ways that way you could describe the scenes that we are witnessing. A protest, or a riot, but no – this is an out and out coup which has been indited by President Trump, but what we are also seeing is the epitome of white privilege.

To quote Ana Navarro, legend and CNN political commentator; “Imagine a bunch of Black and Brown people storming the Capitol, sitting at the Senate Presidents Chair, trespassing into the Speaker’s office? How would Trump have responded? Trump throw the whole force of the law on PEACEFUL Black Lives Matter protestors so he could pose for a pic”.
